Understanding an Athletic Trainer's Shift Status on Go4
Learn the difference between each shift status an Athletic Trainer can be under, how Go4 communicates changes to your confirmed coverage, and what happens next.
When you hire an Athletic Trainer through Go4, you are connecting with an independent Athletic Trainer who has chosen to apply for and confirm working your shift. Go4 provides the technology that facilitates the hiring, communication, and payment process, but Athletic Trainers are independent contractors—not Go4 employees—and manage their own availability, schedules, and professional commitments.
👉 You can learn more about accepting applicants and confirming coverage in How Hiring Works on Go4.
Understanding Go4's Role
Go4 is a technology marketplace that connects Job Posters seeking coverage with independent Athletic Trainers seeking work opportunities.
Athletic Trainers who use Go4 are 1099 independent contractors. This means each Athletic Trainer is responsible for managing their own availability, schedule, and professional commitments. Go4 does not employ Athletic Trainers, control their schedules, or direct when and where they work.
Through the Go4 technology, we facilitate the process of:
- Connecting Job Posters with Athletic Trainers seeking shifts.
- Allowing Job Posters to review applicants and make their own hiring decisions.
- Allowing Athletic Trainers to apply for and confirm the shifts they choose to work.
- Communicating changes to confirmed coverage.
- Reopening shifts following a callout.
- Tracking callouts and no-shows through the Reliability Score.
- Facilitating payment after services are rendered.
Once an Athletic Trainer confirms a shift, they are making a commitment to the Job Poster to provide that coverage. Go4 provides the technology and accountability tools that support this process, but we cannot require an independent Athletic Trainer to fulfill a shift or assign another Athletic Trainer if that commitment is not completed.

When Is My Coverage Officially Confirmed?
Your coverage is only secured after:
- An Athletic Trainer applies for your shift.
- You accept the Athletic Trainer’s application.
- The Athletic Trainer confirms the shift.
Accepting an application does not immediately confirm your coverage. The Athletic Trainer must also confirm that they are accepting the commitment.
After you accept an application, the Athletic Trainer has 48 hours to confirm the shift. Until that confirmation is received, we recommend continuing to monitor the status of your shift through your Go4 dashboard.
Athletic Trainer Statuses at a Glance
| Status | What it means | Is coverage confirmed? |
| Applied | The Athletic Trainer submitted an application for your shift. | No |
| Pending Confirmation | You accepted the application, but the Athletic Trainer has not yet confirmed the shift. | No |
| Confirmed | The Athletic Trainer confirmed the shift and committed to providing coverage. | Yes |
| Withdrawn | The Athletic Trainer removed their application before confirming the shift. | No |
| Expired | The Athletic Trainer's application expired after no action taken. | No |
| Callout | A confirmed Athletic Trainer notified Go4 that they could no longer fulfill the shift. | No |
| No-Show | A confirmed Athletic Trainer failed to arrive and did not provide notice. | No |
Applied
An "Applied" status means an Athletic Trainer has expressed interest in working your shift by submitting an application.
At this stage:
- The Athletic Trainer has not been hired.
- The Athletic Trainer has not committed to the shift.
- Your coverage is not confirmed.
- You can review the Athletic Trainer’s profile, verified credentials, experience, and Reliability Score before making a decision.
Applications expire after seven days if no hiring decision is made. Responding promptly can help prevent an available Athletic Trainer from pursuing another opportunity.
Pending Confirmation
A "Pending Confirmation" status means you accepted the Athletic Trainer’s application, but the Athletic Trainer has not yet confirmed the shift.
The Athletic Trainer has 48 hours to review and confirm the opportunity. During this period, your coverage is still pending.
Coverage is not officially secured until the Athletic Trainer confirms the shift.
If the Athletic Trainer does not confirm within the required timeframe, the opportunity may expire and you may need to review other applicants.
Visit How Hiring Works on Go4 for more information about the acceptance and confirmation process.
Confirmed
A "Confirmed" status means the Athletic Trainer accepted the commitment and is officially scheduled to provide coverage for your shift.
Once confirmed:
- The Athletic Trainer is expected to arrive on time and fulfill the shift.
- The shift is considered covered.
- You and the Athletic Trainer can prepare for the event using the details provided through Go4.
- The Athletic Trainer becomes responsible for communicating if an unexpected situation affects their ability to attend.
Confirmed coverage is a commitment from the independent Athletic Trainer to the Job Poster. However, because Athletic Trainers are independent contractors, Go4 cannot control their availability or guarantee that an individual Athletic Trainer will ultimately fulfill that commitment.
Go4 uses the Reliability Score to document how consistently Athletic Trainers follow through on the shifts they confirm. Learn more in Understanding Athletic Trainer's Profile and Reliability Score.
Withdrawn
A "Withdrawn" status means the Athletic Trainer removed their application before the shift was confirmed.
Athletic Trainers may withdraw an application if their availability changes or they no longer wish to be considered for the opportunity.
Because the Athletic Trainer had not yet confirmed the shift, a withdrawn application is not considered a callout and does not mean confirmed coverage was lost.
You may continue reviewing other applicants through your Go4 dashboard.
Callout
A "Callout" occurs when an Athletic Trainer notifies Go4 that they can no longer fulfill a shift they previously confirmed via their Go4 app.
Callouts can happen several days before a shift or shortly before it is scheduled to begin. While providing notice distinguishes a callout from a no-show, we recognize that a last-minute callout may still leave your organization without the coverage it expected.
When an Athletic Trainer calls out:
- An email notification is sent to the email address associated with your Go4 account.
- The Athletic Trainer is removed from the shift.
- The shift is reopened on the Go4 marketplace.
- Athletic Trainers in the area are notified about the available opportunity.
- The callout is reflected in the Athletic Trainer’s Reliability Score.
Timing Matters
The closer a callout occurs to the beginning of a shift, the less time there is for another Athletic Trainer to apply and secure the coverage.
A callout notification confirms that the Athletic Trainer provided notice and is no longer assigned to the shift. It does not mean replacement coverage has already been secured.
Go4 uses the Reliability Score to document when Athletic Trainers call out of confirmed commitments. Learn more in Understanding Athletic Trainer's Profile and Reliability Score.
No-Show
A "No-Show" occurs when a confirmed Athletic Trainer fails to arrive for the shift without providing notice that they are unable to attend.
A no-show is different from a callout because the Athletic Trainer did not notify Go4 or the Job Poster before the shift.
If your confirmed Athletic Trainer has not arrived:
- Attempt to contact the Athletic Trainer using the contact information available in the Athletic Trainer's profile on your Go4 dashboard.
- Confirm that the Athletic Trainer is not already on-site or experiencing difficulty locating the correct check-in area.
- Contact Go4 Support team at support@go4.io as soon as possible so our team can review the incident.
- Provide any relevant details, including your attempts to contact the Athletic Trainer.
Go4 will review the circumstances before officially classifying the incident as a no-show.
Go4 uses the Reliability Score to document how when Athletic Trainers fail to follow through on their commitments with no notice. Learn more in Understanding Athletic Trainer's Profile and Reliability Score.
No Check-In? No Payment.
Go4 charges you once services are rendered by the confirmed Athletic Trainer. The Athletic Trainer must show up to your event's location and check-in through their Go4 app. The check-in ability is only made available to an Athletic Trainer when they are within one-mile radius of the event.
If the Athletic Trainer fails to show up to their confirmed shift, Go4 does not charge you.
Callout vs. No-Show
| Status | What happened? | Was notice provided? | What does Go4 do? |
| Callout | The Athletic Trainer notified Go4 through the app that they could no longer fulfill the confirmed shift. | Yes | Notifies the Job Poster via email, reopens the shift, and records the callout in the Athletic Trainer’s reliability history. |
| No-Show | The Athletic Trainer did not arrive for the confirmed shift and did not provide notice. | No | Automatically records the no-show in the Athletic Trainer’s reliability history. |
Although these situations are classified differently, we understand that either one may leave your organization without the Athletic Trainer coverage it scheduled.
The classification is based on whether the Athletic Trainer provided notice—not whether replacement coverage was secured.
How Will I Be Notified About a Callout?
When a confirmed Athletic Trainer calls out through the Go4 app, an automated email is sent to the email address associated with your Go4 account in real-time.
The email lets you know that the Athletic Trainer is no longer assigned to the shift and that the shift has been reopened on the marketplace.
We recommend:
- Keeping the email address associated with your Go4 account current.
- Monitoring your email as the shift approaches.
- Checking your spam or junk folder if you believe you missed a Go4 notification.
- Confirming that the person responsible for managing coverage has access to the Go4 account and its notifications.
You will receive another update if an Athletic Trainer applies to the reopened shift. You must accept a new applicant, and that Athletic Trainer must confirm the shift, before replacement coverage is officially secured.
What Happens When a Shift Is Reopened?
When an Athletic Trainer calls out, Go4 uses its technology to automatically re-market the open shift to Athletic Trainers in your area.
Because Athletic Trainers are independent contractors, Go4 cannot assign, schedule, or require another Athletic Trainer to accept the reopened shift. Each Athletic Trainer independently manages their availability and decides which opportunities they would like to pursue.
Whether replacement coverage is secured may depend on:
- How much time remains before the shift.
- Athletic Trainer availability in the area.
- The location and timing of the event.
- The rate offered for the shift.
- Other coverage opportunities available in the marketplace.
If another Athletic Trainer applies, you must review and accept the application. The Athletic Trainer must then confirm the shift before replacement coverage is officially secured.
Go4 will facilitate this process through the marketplace, but replacement coverage cannot be guaranteed—especially when a callout occurs shortly before the shift.
How Do Callouts and No-Shows Affect an Athletic Trainer?
Callouts and confirmed no-shows negatively affect an Athletic Trainer’s Reliability Score.
The Reliability Score helps Job Posters evaluate how consistently an Athletic Trainer follows through on the shifts they accept. The amount of notice provided matters: a callout made several days in advance does not have the same impact as a callout made shortly before the shift. A confirmed no-show has the greatest impact because no notice was provided.
Reliability Scores are visible to Job Posters when reviewing Athletic Trainers in the marketplace. This creates greater transparency and helps Job Posters make more informed hiring decisions.

Can Go4 Guarantee Coverage or Assign a Replacement?
No. Athletic Trainers on Go4 are independent contractors who manage their own availability, schedules, and professional commitments.
Go4 cannot:
- Require an Athletic Trainer to apply for a shift.
- Require an applicant to accept an offer.
- Assign an Athletic Trainer to an organization.
- Control whether an Athletic Trainer fulfills a confirmed commitment.
- Guarantee that replacement coverage will be secured following a callout.
Go4 facilitates the process through its technology by sharing opportunities, communicating status changes, reopening shifts, and providing reliability information to help Job Posters make informed hiring decisions.
FAQs
Does receiving an application mean my shift is covered?
No. An application only indicates that an Athletic Trainer is interested in the opportunity.
You must accept the application, and the Athletic Trainer must then confirm the shift, before your coverage is officially secured.
I accepted an Athletic Trainer. Why is my coverage still pending?
After you accept an application, the Athletic Trainer has 48 hours to confirm the shift. Coverage remains pending until that confirmation is received.
If the Athletic Trainer does not confirm within the required timeframe, you may need to select another applicant.
What is the difference between a withdrawal and a callout?
A withdrawal occurs before the Athletic Trainer confirms the shift. Because the Athletic Trainer had not yet committed to providing coverage, it is not considered a callout.
A callout occurs after the Athletic Trainer has confirmed the shift and then notifies Go4 that they can no longer fulfill that commitment.
Why was the incident classified as a callout if we were still left without coverage?
The classification is based on whether the Athletic Trainer provided notice.
If the Athletic Trainer notified Go4 that they could not attend, the incident is considered a callout—even when the notice was provided shortly before the shift. If the Athletic Trainer failed to arrive and provided no notice, the incident may be classified as a no-show.
We recognize that either situation can leave your organization without coverage. The distinction allows Go4 to accurately document what occurred and apply the appropriate impact to the Athletic Trainer’s Reliability Score.
Does receiving a callout email mean another Athletic Trainer has been assigned?
No. The notification means the original Athletic Trainer is no longer assigned and the shift has been reopened on the marketplace.
Replacement coverage is not confirmed until you accept a new applicant and that Athletic Trainer confirms the shift.
Will Go4 automatically assign a replacement Athletic Trainer?
No. Go4 does not employ or assign Athletic Trainers. Athletic Trainers are independent contractors who decide which shifts they would like to pursue based on their own availability.
As the Job Poster, you also retain control over whom you hire.
What should I do if an Athletic Trainer has not arrived?
First, attempt to contact the Athletic Trainer and confirm that they are not already at the venue or having difficulty finding the correct location.
If you cannot reach them and they have not provided notice, contact Go4 Support team immediately at support@go4.io. Our team will review the incident and determine the appropriate next steps.
Can I change the rate after a shift is reopened?
Yes but you will only have the option to increase the rate. Updating the rate may make the reopened shift more competitive, particularly when you are seeking coverage on short notice. However, increasing the rate does not guarantee that another Athletic Trainer will apply.
Can I review an Athletic Trainer’s reliability before hiring them?
Yes. An Athletic Trainer’s Reliability Score is visible when you review their profile. We encourage you to consider the score alongside their verified credentials, experience, and overall profile before making a hiring decision.
Visit Understanding Athletic Trainer's Profile and Reliability Score to learn how the score works and how to use it when evaluating applicants.
Does Go4 take action when an Athletic Trainer calls out or does not arrive?
Yes. Callouts and confirmed no-shows affect the Athletic Trainer’s Reliability Score. The amount of notice provided determines the level of impact, with last-minute callouts and no-shows having a greater effect.
Because Athletic Trainers are independent contractors, Go4 does not manage their schedules or employment. The Reliability Score is the accountability tool Go4 provides to document these incidents, encourage dependable marketplace behavior, and give Job Posters greater visibility when making future hiring decisions.
