Athletic Trainer Credential Requirements

Learn which credentials are required to work shifts through Go4, how credential verification works, and what documentation may be required to maintain an active profile.

To help maintain a trusted network of qualified healthcare professionals, Go4 requires Athletic Trainers to maintain certain credentials and documentation on their profile.

Required credentials may vary based on state regulations, the type of work being performed, and specific requirements established by the Job Poster.

Athletic Trainers are responsible for ensuring all required credentials remain current and up to date.

Important Note: All submitted credentials are reviewed by Go4's Verification Team before they are approved. Athletic Trainers must have all required credentials approved and verified before becoming eligible to apply for shifts through the platform.

Required Credentials

To be eligible to work shifts through Go4, Athletic Trainers are generally required to maintain:

  • Board of Certification (BOC) - Athletic Trainers must hold an active Board of Certification (BOC) credential.

  • Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) - Athletic Trainers are required to maintain active Professional Liability Insurance coverage while providing services through Go4.

  • State Licensure or Certification - Where required by state law, Athletic Trainers must maintain an active state license or certification for the state in which services are being provided.

Credential Verification Process

All required credentials submitted to Go4 are reviewed by our Verification Team to ensure they meet platform and compliance requirements. This verification process helps maintain a trusted network of qualified Athletic Trainers while supporting a safe and compliant experience for both Athletic Trainers and Job Posters.

Credential Statuses
Your credentials may display one of the following statuses during the verification process:
  • Under Review

Your credential has been submitted and is awaiting review by Go4's Verification Team.

You may submit applications to shifts while credentials are under review; however, your application will remain pending until all required credentials have been accepted. Once your credentials are approved, your application will automatically move forward in the hiring process.

  • Approved
Your credential has been verified and approved by Go4's Verification Team. Once all required credentials have been accepted, you may apply for shifts through the platform.
  • Denied

Your credential could not be approved because it was expired, incomplete, illegible, submitted incorrectly, or did not meet the applicable requirement.

Athletic Trainers with denied required credentials will not be eligible to apply for shifts until updated documentation is submitted and accepted.

Athletic Trainers will be notified if additional information or updated documentation is needed.

Credential Review Timeline
Credentials submitted to Go4 are typically reviewed by our Verification Team within 24–72 business hours. To avoid delays in applying for shifts, we recommend submitting new or renewed credentials as early as possible.

Tips for Smooth Verification Process

To help avoid delays:

  • Ensure all text, names, license numbers, and expiration dates are clearly visible.
  • Upload complete documents rather than partial screenshots when possible.
  • Verify that uploaded credentials are current and unexpired.
  • Update credentials promptly when they expire to avoid interruptions in shift eligibility.
  • Submit renewed credentials as early as possible to allow time for review before applying to shifts.

Additional Credentials That May Be Required

In addition to the credentials required by Go4, some organizations may require Athletic Trainers to provide additional documentation before they are eligible to work specific shifts.

Examples may include:

  • Background Checks
  • SafeSport Training
  • Fingerprinting
  • State-Specific Clearances
  • Organization-Specific Onboarding Requirements
  • Other Compliance Documentation

These requirements are established by the organization posting the shift and are not required by Go4 for general platform eligibility. Requirements may vary from one organization or opportunity to another.

While Go4 verifies core eligibility credentials such as your BOC certification, Professional Liability Insurance, and state licensure (where applicable), additional organization-specific requirements are not reviewed or approved by Go4. Athletic Trainers are responsible for working directly with the organization to ensure any additional documentation meets that organization's standards and requirements.

    1. The BOC has extended all athletic trainer certifications expiring on 12/31/2025 to a new expiration date of 02/02/2026. Go4 has automatically updated all valid BOC credentials in your profile to reflect this change.

The jobs you are able to view and apply to on Go4, are based on the license you add to your profile. Please ensure that your name and expiration date are legible,

In rare instances, states may offer reciprocity and this is written into the state practice act. You can review your state practice act here.

NOTE: If you live in California, you do not need to add a state license credential to the Go4 app, as there is currently no state regulation of athletic training.
