Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) Through Players Health

Learn why Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) is required on Go4, what coverage is offered through Players Health, and how to purchase a policy directly through the Go4 app.

Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) protects Athletic Trainers from claims related to alleged errors, omissions, negligence, or professional services provided during the course of patient care.

Because Athletic Trainers often work independently across multiple organizations, schools, tournaments, and events, maintaining your own Professional Liability Insurance policy is an important part of protecting both your professional and financial well-being.

Go4 requires all Athletic Trainers working through the platform to maintain active Professional Liability Insurance coverage.

Why Go4 Requires PLI
PLI is one of the three core credentials Go4 verifies for every Athletic Trainer on the platform, alongside your BOC certification and state license (where required).

Why Do Athletic Trainers Need Their Own PLI?

Many Athletic Trainers assume they are covered under their employer's insurance policy.

Unfortunately, this is often not the case for per diem work, volunteer coverage, moonlighting, or services performed outside of your primary employment setting.

Having your own individual policy helps ensure you remain protected regardless of:

  • Where you work
  • Who you work for
  • Whether you are working per diem or full-time
  • Whether you are volunteering coverage

Your Employer's Insurance May Not Follow You
Employer-sponsored insurance often only applies while performing duties for that employer and may not extend to outside work opportunities or per diem coverage.

Why Players Health?

Go4 partners with Players Health to offer Athletic Trainers a Professional Liability + General Liability policy specifically designed for Athletic Trainers.

Unlike many policies that only provide professional liability coverage, the Players Health policy combines both Professional Liability and General Liability coverage into a single policy.

Additional benefits include:

  • Coverage while working per diem
  • Coverage while working full-time
  • Coverage while volunteering
  • Coverage that follows you across employers and organizations
  • Legal representation for covered incidents
  • Licensing board reimbursement
  • Deposition expense coverage
  • Property damage coverage
  • Occurrence-based coverage

The policy was developed in collaboration with Athletic Trainers and is backed by Players Health, a leader in sports insurance solutions.

Important for New York Athletic Trainers
At this time, PLI policies through Players Health are no longer available for Athletic Trainers practicing in the state of New York.

Athletic Trainers located in New York who need to obtain or renew Professional Liability Insurance will need to secure coverage through an alternative insurance provider that meets Go4's credential requirements.

Existing policyholders with questions regarding renewals, coverage eligibility, or policy status should contact Players Health Support directly for additional guidance.
