Setting a minimum rate could limit the earning power of athletic trainers. That minimum rate could, in effect, also become the maximum rate. Organizations posting shifts could potentially see no reason to post above the minimum.
The best way to drive rates up is to avoid taking any job that you feel undervalues your services as an athletic trainer. In essence, low-rate shifts will not be picked up; higher-rate shifts will.
Behind the scenes, when low rates get posted, we do reach out to the Job Posters and suggest they raise their rate or risk not securing an athletic trainer for their job. Sometimes they listen, and sometimes they don’t.
We don’t actively promote low rates, or put any extra marketing effort behind them. We just simply put it out there and let the athletic trainer community decide.
