Go4 requires Professional Liability Insurance with a minimum of $1,000,000 per individual instance and a $3,000,000 fate. To apply for a job, you must add proof of PLI to your account's credential section.
What is PLI?
PLI, or Professional Liability Insurance, protects healthcare professionals against bearing full financial responsibility of defending against real or alleged errors or omissions, including negligence, over the course of their professional duties.
Why does Go4 require me to have PLI?
Having adequate PLI is listed in the BOC Standards of Professional Practice and working without it puts ATs and their financial assets at risk.
We understand that per diem work can present unique challenges that may increase the risk of a malpractice claim against an AT. In today’s highly litigious world, it is important to Go4 that ATs are protected, and can defend against these claims.
How do I get PLI and how much does it cost?
There are many PLI providers and it is always best to get a few quotes. If you are an NATA member, there is a discount available through Mercer that you can access HERE.
Plans typically start around $200 for the year. This includes $1,000,000 per incident and $3,000,000 aggregate coverage.
Premiums can be influenced by things such as employment status and amount of coverage, so make sure you know what you are getting and what is covered prior to purchasing.
I already have PLI through my employer. Is this sufficient?
No! In this instance, you are only covered while providing services for your primary employer. In fact, there may be gaps in coverage even then. For example, if an AT works at a secondary school/university, the policy may be worded to specify who the AT will be providing care for (student athletes). This could create a gap in coverage if health care services are provided to a spectator, coach, official, etc. For any per diem/volunteer work outside of your primary place of employment, separate professional liability insurance is needed.
